Welcome Back Duathlon

It was a long time coming with many hurdles to be negotiated, but we finally got returned to action at High Lodge with our ‘Welcome Back’ fun duathlon on 27th September.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves despite the extra requirements put in place around Covid-19 (and a little rain and wind!).

One such requirement was to start participants one at a time with a 10 second gaps rather than our usual wave starts of 20-25 people at a time. Our time-keepers were kept busy, but did a top job of making this all work.

Even a fallen tree on the bike route couldn’t dampen our spirits – it was almost literally another hurdle to be negotiated, but thankfully it hadn’t complete blocked the path (Phew!).

Sprint finish at High Lodge on Sunday

All finishers received a medal to celebrate the return of our events, with the last one being way back in February.

Several participants also achieved their 4th counting event for the 2019-20 winter series including so a big well done if that was you!

The results from both the morning and afternoon events can be found here.

We would just like to say a big thanks to everyone who made this a successful return including our super event team, Forestry England and of course all of the participants.

A marvelous effort by all involved in getting this event back on! The COVID requirement of starting us one at a time worked seamlessly well, the set up in transition worked very well and the marshalls around the course were fantastically supportive!! And the fallen tree caused no issues for us participants, although the gravel track on the bike route was tough and never ending!! Thank you so much for putting on such a fabulous event, and working so hard to do this with the current pandemic situation, you actually nailed it! Can’t wait for the next one 🙂

A great morning event – really well organised, managed and executed. Managed to get round in not too bad a time despite a flat tyre on the second bike lap.

Looking forward to the next one.
